Tagging Time!

Step 1: Input your inventory online

Use internet explorer when printing tags.

The Firefox web browser will not print the tags correctly.

Make sure all of your items are hung up and are in order by size and gender.

This will make entering your information much faster.

Enter your inventory, sign up for a drop off time

and volunteer for a shift on your Consignor Homepage.

If it is idle for 20 minutes, it will log you out.  You can log in again and continue.

1.     Sign in using your consignor number and password.

2.    Click “Work with consigned inventory”

3.    Click “Work with my consigned items”

4.    Enter category, size, price and description.

5.    List the brand in description line one, describe the item and list if there are multiple pieces.

6.    Check discount to sell for 25% price on Friday, 50% off on Saturday and mark donate if you don’t plan on picking up your unsold items Saturday afternoon.

7.    Only the last 5 items are shown.  To see your entire inventory, check the box under the input section.  Viewing you entire inventory can slow down the system.

8.    If you have multiple identical items (i.e. 5 Baby Gap Blue t-shirts,) you can enter 5 in the qty box and a tag will be made for each.

9.    Please try to be as descriptive as possible.  Mention the brand and if there is a dog on the shirt, or if it is a dress with blue flowers.

10. Never DELETE items on your inventory if you intend to bring them in to sell.  Items must be listed in your inventory for your barcodes to work with the checkout system.

Step 2: Pricing

1.     You set the prices.  Some items will be new, with the tags still on.  Used items will sell for 1/3-1/4 of retail price.  Boutique and higher end brands will sell for more.  You can set your prices on the higher end and allow them to go 25% off Friday and 50% off on Saturday.

2.    Remember that there are a LOT of baby clothes, especially baby girl clothes.  Price these items lower and allow them to be discounted.

3.   For help getting started, look at our suggested prices here.

Step 3: Tagging

When you are ready to print your tags, sign into your consignor homepage,

click “work with consigned inventory” and print tags.

1.     Use white or light colored CARD STOCK for tags- regular paper rips too easily and tags will get lost if they aren’t on card stock. You can buy cardstock at Walmart or anyplace that sells office paper.

2.    Make sure your printer has enough ink- one of the best features of our tagging system is bar-coding and crisp barcode lines make everything faster!

 3.    Tagging Guns- Please use 3” barbs.  If you’d like to buy a tagging gun, you can buy one on ebay or from an online vendor such as Billy Cheng through PayPal to Billy@Cheng.net  It takes about 2 weeks to get it in the mail from Mr. Cheng so please allow enough time for delivery.  The prices can vary, but we’ve seen tagging guns with the needle and barbs as low at $6.50.  Tagging guns are demonstrated below.

 4.    Cut out and attach tag with a safety pin or tagging gun- Don’t use the tiny gold safety pins, they are hard to work with.  Regular silver safety pins work well.  A tagging gun is a great way to speed things up. Secure pins or tagging gun barbs with tape on any clothing item over $10 to discurage tag switching.

Gather safety pins, packing tape, scissors, card stock (to print your tags on), extra batteries, and a tagging gun (optional).

All battery operated items must have batteries to show that they work.  They don’t need to be brand new batteries.  To save a little and still demonstrate that your items work, use working batteries from your TV remote or toys you are keeping so the new batteries stay home with you!

Print out your tags and secure them to your items
Print tags on white card stock paper from your online inventory.
Make sure the tag and barcode are readable.
Attach tags with safety pins or a tagging gun (no straight pins, staples or tiny gold safety pins please.)
The hanger should look like a question mark “?” as you look at the front of the item.
Single pants/skirts and pants belonging to a set should be pinned to the hanger at each side, do not hang pants over the hanger.
Please do not use adult hangers on children’s items under size 7.

Clothing

When using a safety pin to secure your tag, please add it to the right side away from the open hook of the hanger.  The hanger should look like a “?” as you look at the item.

Pants

 jeans1web

Here, pants are hung by safety pins through the top hooks of the hanger.

This keeps them open flat so shoppers can see the pants clearly.

    jeanscloseweb

Here, the pants are hung from the bottom of the hanger.  This is helpful if your safety pins are not big enough to hang the first way.

Tagging Guns

A tagging gun connects tags with a 3” plastic barb.

The needle goes through the tag and then through the manufacturer’s tag

before you pull the trigger to send the barb through.

This is a fast and easy way to connect tags but they can also be safety pinned on.

Please DO NOT use the tagging gun to attach pants to shirts.  The weight of the fabric will create holes in the clothing.  Items connected with a tagging gun will not be accepted at check in.  Use safety pins and attach pants or other accessories to the hanger.

Blankets can be hung, folded over the hanger and secured in place by safety pins on both sides.  Use a safety pin or tagging gun to attach the tag.

Other Items

For toys, books and other non-clothing items, attach tags with tape and zip ties.

Shoes sell better when they can be easily seen and they stay together.

This tag was reinforced with packing tape at the top, a hole puncher was used to make a clean hole for the zip tie.

The zip tie was used to keep the shoes together and to secure the tag.

Zip ties can also be helpful with large toys.

Remember to reinforce the tag with packing tape when you secure it with a zip tie.

Group small items such as socks together in a Ziploc bag and tape the tag to the bag.  Avoid taping over the barcode.

 Toys

Secure tags to plastic toys with clear packing tape.  Please make sure not to tape over the barcode.

 lpvanweb

If you have small pieces, please put them in a Ziploc bag, tape the bag to the toy and secure the tag to the bag with tape.

Small pieces that are not secured will get lost.

Remember to have working batteries!

Please attach tags to the back cover of books with clear tape, being careful to not tape over the bar code.
